Kindred Spirits || Shaun and Michael

Shaun walked the short distance to the Bass house and rang the doorbell. After the repeated benders of the last few weeks, he realized maybe he should’ve tried to clean himself up. He hadn’t hung out with Michael since before he’d left and maybe he should’ve made an effort. Oh well, too bad.

All he wanted was turn his head off. He had so enough of all of this. He’d hope everything would calm down when he came back but apparently it wasn’t. So when Michael learned that Shaun was in the same dark place like he was he didn’t thought twice.

He heard doorbell and opened door only to see Shaun with one of his biggest hungover ever.

Shaun smiled vaguely. The sun was really bright and he wasn’t sure his eyes were adjusting properly. Outside is not the place for me, these days.

He held up his case of beer and grinned at Michael.

“So, bro, ready for round 2? Or actually, it might be closer to round 32, but who’s counting?”

You and Me and My Sister Make Three || Shaun, Stephanie and Candice

Shaun paced the living room, making Neko nervous. He straightened his shirt, tucked it in and then untucked it. He put on deodorant, twice. He straightened the dinner table and double checked to make sure dinner was going to go as planned. Typically, he wasn’t nervous around girls and usually his sister’s friends were nothing to be scared of, but he had a funny feeling about this one. Plus, it was the first time he’d be on a kinda date with anyone since Sam, besides the drive and dinner he’d had with Olivia. That had been pretty platonic though. He heard the keys turn in the lock and nearly jumped out of his skin.

Steph and Candice stepped out of the cab and into their house. The ride home was fun. They were laughing about some silly stories they shared with each other and bonded a little more. To say that Steph wasn’t having a blast with her newly found friend was a complete lie.

“Shaun?” She called out for her brother. “I’m hoooome! Candice is with me. Do you mind introducing yourself to our lovely guest?” She spoke in a singsong tune and chuckled. When her brother finally showed up, she faked a deep sigh. “Oh thank goodness. I thought you were having an anxiety attack again.” She snorted in laughter before composing herself once again. “By the way, Candice. I want you to meet my oh-so awesome guy of a brother, Shaun Humphrey. Shaun, this is my ultra gorgeous girl friend, Candice Payne.” She said as she introduced the two strangers to each other. Steph could sense some chemistry boiling up and she knew she had to make an excuse to leave the house. It was unacceptable for her to be a third wheel so she felt the strong need to leave.

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go somewhere else.” She politely told the two as she grabbed her purse and keys. “Don’t worry, Candice. I’ll be back before the lights go out. Bye!” She smiled and left. Fact: Stephanie Humphrey is a very good matchmaker.

As Candice stepped inside Stephanie’s house, her heart started immediately racing. Her friend’s voice echoed throughout the place whilst she nervously waited for the mysterious man to appear. When he did, she carefully allowed her gaze to focus him, secretly analysing his features.

“It’s a pleasure, Shaun Humphrey.”, she said as she politely extended an hand towards him, “I am Candice. Candice Payne.”

Turning around to face Stephanie, she narrowed her bright eyes, nervously. She was leaving already? All she had time to was waving awkwardly as her friend left the house in an hurried pace. Then, motionless, she waited patiently for Shaun to lead her.

He was taken aback by how pretty she was. He scanned her quickly. Her delicate frame and sweet smile intrigued him.

“Um, hi. Candice. Do you have a nickname? Never been a big fan of that name.”

Fuck. Insulting her name. Maybe not the best choice of awkward comments to make. Oh well, her parents chose it anyways.

“Well, since my darling sister seems to have disappeared, it seems we have far too much shrimp alfredo. You’re okay with shellfish?”

He walked into the kitchen and motioned for her to follow. Neko the cat meowed loudly, the chubby calico weaving herself between Candice’s legs.
